Dan spent his formative years at Bell Dewar & Hall (now Fasken Martineau) where, in addition to commercial, litigation and labour law, he was involved in public interest law. Prior to joining the firm as a partner in 1998, Dan was a partner responsible for commercial litigation and labour law at Brink Cohen Le Roux and Roodt.
Dan now practises in all aspects of commercial, aviation and insurance litigation, labour law (excluding collective agreements and associated matters), all aspects of media law, intellectual property law and privacy law. Dan’s practice includes appearances at regulatory hearings relating to broadcasting and film classification appeals. Dan’s knowledge of regulatory matters extends to all aspects of media law including broadcasting and television. Dan offers training in his areas of expertise. A fellow of the Association of Arbitrators, Dan has also acted as an arbitrator in various matters.
Dan has been involved in numerous high profile matters including commissions of enquiry, international arbitrations and constitutional law matters. He has been successfully involved in several matters which have resulted in seminal judicial decisions including commercial matters and those involving freedom of expression in South Africa (both at the Supreme Court of Appeal and at the Constitutional Court).
